We’ve all heard that a mother is a child’s best friend. But how often do we see that friendship and bond transforming professionally into business partners, building an empire together? Debuting on Shark Tank India 2, with a unique idea to present Chikankari on velvet is House of Chikankari, a clothing brand run by a Delhi-based mother and daughter duo, united by their mutual obsession with Chikankari’s and a desire to create a deeper impact on country’s craftsmen.
It is a lesser-known fact that Mughal empress Begum Nur Jahan, who was said to be a skilled embroideress, introduced Chikankari, a traditional embroidery style, to India. Promoting the same are Poonam Rawal and Aakriti Rawal from Delhi who, in addition to other fabrics, bring Chikankari to velvet for the first time with House of Chikankari, giving the famous embroidery work a unique twist. The Sharks lauded Poonam and Aakriti’s entrepreneurial spirit and their aim to promote Indian artisanship on a large scale with an impressed Anupam expressing disappointment over women’s contributions going unnoticed, without garnering enough credit, in society. With an ask of Rs 75 lakhs in exchange for 1% equity, will the men in the panel show their support to the women entrepreneurs of House of Chikankari?
